About
Fred and Gladys Drummond began the nursery in 1968, with a small 12' by 8' greenhouse in which they grew plants for terrariums, a popular item at the time. Fred and Gladys quickly became successful selling hundreds per week at the local farmers market in DeSoto, MO. In 1976 a resident of DeSoto suggested that the nursery expands and starts to sell succulents, and brought them some sempervivums that they began to propagate. Then a few years later a friend of Fred's asked him to talk at the Henry Shaw Cactus Society meeting and things really took off from there.
Since then Drummond Nursery has been a regular vendor at the succulent and cacti show at Missouri Botanical Gardens. Gladys is still open daily for retail customers and remains busy supplying local garden centers in the St. Louis area.
